Google News Adds RSS

Google News has decided to join the rest of us.  They have started making news search results available  through RSS and ATOM feeds.  This is much more useful to users than those pesky news alerts that plague our in-boxes.  I am actually pretty excited about this.  Outfits like PRWeb Newswire and Yahoo! News have been doing this for some time now.  It is actually one of the most effective uses of RSS technology that I have experienced.

To use the feeds correctly you have to make sure that your query is date sorted and not relevance sorted so that your not looking at older headlines all the time.

Thank you Google!

RSS and the Future of Mexico

Mexico may be lagging behind the U.S. in in some areas.  However, there is at least one group of people that are set to propel the benefits of the World Wide Web forward as a standard part of Mexican business.  David McInnis and I had the opportunity to visit with members of AMIPCI which stands for the Asociación Mexican de Internet.  While the membership is not focused specifically on RSS they are interested all things Internet to include RSS and Podcasting.

What that says is there is an opportunity for huge growth in Mexico.  One could argue that any growth would be huge as Internet and Internet technologies are not as common in Mexico as in the United States.  Of course we have barely scratched the surface in our own country.

If you want to work with a lot of early adopters take a look at what is happening in Mexico.  You will certainly see an opportunity to participate in things that we already take for granted here.  PRWeb showed it was an early adopter of this concept when it formed AmbosMedios to offer it's free press release and news distribution services.  While the initial economic benefits may not be seen there is the opportunity to be a part of something great in terms of Internet history.

Anyway that you cut we need other countries to develop their Internet technologies if we want the World Wide Web to truly be the World Wide Web.

So Much News

There is so much news out there about RSS not to mention almost anything else that you can imagine that it difficult to keep track of it all.  That is if you don't use an RSS news reader of some kind.  Now AOL is offering a news reader back ended by Feedster.  AOL has long tried to personalize it's interface in order to offer it's subscribers more than just access to the web.

According to SearchEngineJournal  the personalization is an RSS feed reader which is powered by Feedster, a leading RSS search engine. The Feedster powered reader is featured on the “My AOL” page for consumers who want fast access to RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds for updates of news and content they care about.

What really excites me is that AOL with it's substantial user base will be one more evangelist for the benefits of RSS and aid in the mass adoption of this really cool technology.  Now news from organizations such as PRWeb and eMediawire can be fed real time to AOL users everywhere.
